Here's a couple of points I'll make based on personal experience since I used the plastic tubes for many years and have since switched to a bag with full length nylon dividers.

Hogan as a golfer, and started a collection of his clubs I'm not sure you should limit your choices, especially since todays clubs are more forgiving, and given you'd likely be limited to purchasing them on ebay or second hand stores getting custom fitted could be difficult and expensive. Here's a link of the Hogan irons timeline so you have an idea of when they were produced.

I own the One Plus, Apex (1973), Apex II (1979), Apex Pro and C.F.T.

They were produced more recently so you're more likely to find these models in better condition than some of the older Hogan blades, like the 1 Plus / Plus 1 or Apex / Apex II which are also much less forgiving. The Apex Plus and Pro's have forged heads and are pretty forgiving. I'm guessing (1) was ladies flex and (5) was x-stiff. I've never seen a (1) or (5) but I've heard they were produced. The Apex name comes from the shaft which are typically labeled (2), (3), (4) - I think 2 is senior flex, 3 is regular flex, and 4 is stiff flex. These are all different models, and look very different from one another so it's important to know which ones you are looking at and buying. Then there are variations of the Apex name such as Apex II, Apex PC, Apex BH Grind, Apex Plus and Apex Pro. The previous poster mentioned Apex irons, there are irons that have the Apex name from 1972, 1973, 1988, 1992, 1994, 1998. Most Hogan loyalists didn't like these clubs because they weren't forged or look like the older Hogan irons.īe careful, Hogan irons can be pretty confusing because they re-used names quite often.

They have a wide cavity back and are perimeter weighted. I can hardly wait for my next round! I just hope that I get out before the cold sets in! LOLHogan's SGI clubs are the C.F.T. I'm currently having the clubs reshafted with Dynamic Gold S300 SL 's face it.its True Temper. But I can tell you that these clubs are very well constructed and will without a doubt be the last irons I buy. I have only played one round with the clubs so far and do need practice getting used to them as everyone needs to do when switching equipment. I go out, try the clubs and draw my own conclusions. I'm not the type who just goes on what others say or the ads. I would say that the proof is in the putting. The feel through the shots were positive and not as abusive on the hands. Shot dispersion was much tighter, shots that were not hit square are very forgiving and not penalized as much. I hit another 10 shots with each club and found my self going back to the Apex. After the "first round" of trying out the clubs, I eliminated the Nike, CG1 and the 680 because they felt hard and a bit heavy. I tried all the blades available to me such as the MP-33 and 37, Nike forged, Titleist 680, Cleveland CG1 and finally the Apex 50. Only being and 80's shooter, I decided to go with blades because I felt that my ball striking had improved a great deal. I have been playing a very old set of Mizuno irons (similar to the MP-30) for a very long time and felt now is the time for me to upgrade. But oh well.we "hacks" can show up with these beautiful sticks and take the prize. Suffice to say, with practice in shaping, pinching, and distance control, these will be in my bag for a long time. Just shake my head and say, "hey guys, I am as surprised as you are, but I'll take it." Still can't get over the looks I get when I strike the ball from 150 with my 8 and it goes sky high and lands like a "butterfly with sore feet". And of course, the long irons, especially the 3 hits the ball just the way Hogan would have loved.an low, climbing but piercing little draw.

Thats right, a high, soft shot with spin, with X-100s.something has to be up. Amazingly, they hit the ball quite easily, especially when you need that high, soft 8-E coming into a green. With DG Gold X-100, I though I would have to replace the shafts (54 years old with new hip). The sole is very responsive and handles someone that hits down on the ball, the way I do. I am an old time "hitter" of the golf ball, not a "sweeper", so I was a little fearful of the "dig". Without exception the Apex were comfortable in all conditions. some very spongy ground to very, very firm hard tie grass. Didn't feel hitting them off mats gave me a true feel for the club, so I went to my club where we have a variety of conditions, i.e. Just got these the other day and took them out for a drive.
